Re: VMWare Workstation 7.1.4 .vmdk corrupted in Windows

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

The error message you quoted was indeed the very first message I got after the physical hard disk that stored the virtual disk was accidentally unplugged whilst VMWare Workstation was in the process of deleting one of the disk's old saved states from the Snapshot Manager.  That's how I ended up in this mess.

However, I no longer get that error message, and instead, now get the error message that I originally posted regarding it can't find one of the snapshot disks it depends on,

Sadly, running -vdiskmanager -R command results in no errors being found against that .vmdk or any of the other .vmdk's associated with that virtual machine.

As a first step, please post a list of all the VM's files you have, running dir *.* from the command line, to see what's available and how to proceed.

In addition to this, compress/zip the vmware*.log files as well as the VM's .vmx file and attach the archive to a reply post (using the advanced editor).

Is there a vmtools package for running OSX (mountain Lion)

When I select install vmtools from the bottom panel when the OSX guest is running, nothing happens.  If I select it from the manage menu, the system eventually comes  back and says it can't find the tools package.

This is with VMWare Player 6.01.

Is this configuration not supported yet for OSX under VMWare Player?

Hi Emily32,

thanks for the answer. I followed the link and it ended in "VMware vSphere Hypervisor 4.1" download center but not in the ESXi 3.5 download/lincense website". So the link didn't work for me. Me last chance is that someone has an free old not more used lisence, which i can get it for free.

Best regards

joe

Hmm, OSX on VMware Player? That is not supported and you are breaking Apples EULA by running OSX on non-apple hardware.

You will not be able to get any help on these forums since it breaks this communities guidelines.

I went through the pdf files that you referenced and enable Clipboard in both direction as suggested. I still can not make Copy/Paste to work properly. It seems that the only way to do it is to use "Paste Text" feature from blast bar. But this only works from client to Virtual desktop and not vice versa.

Is there anything else I am missing.

Just got pinging to work ... firewall issues on the VM. Some progress on that at least.

So I can ping the VM from my Mac, but still cant see the VM on other devices at home, but I can see the Mac ... feel like I am getting closer though!

Are you using the 5.3 agent and the corresponding featurepack?
Could you try another browser?

Hi,

What about IIS itself. What do you see when you browse VM IP? Depending how you confgured IIS you should receive IIS landing page.

Unless I'm mistaken, the IP address you mentioned is the NAT network's gateway address!? Assuming the VM's IP address is 192.168.54.128 and the web server uses port 80, you may add:

[incomingtcp]

8080 = 192.168.54.128:80

to the file to access the web page from the network using the host's IP address and port 8080.

May be when the post was created, "Mark this as a question" was not checked.?  That might be the logical reason for missing answered option

Hi,

Yes I can browse to the IIS site on the Mac by entering the IP address and it opens up with no issues.

In the nat.conf file I have ...

8080 = 192.168.54.2:80

Which is the IP address I use to browse to the site on the Mac.

Whenever I make changes to the file I reboot the VM, is this correct?

I have an app on my iPhone called Ping Lite that I use to try and ping the IP address of the VM, would this be the best way of testing connectivity?
